Lindsey Puetz, a senior who transferred here two years ago, works at the Campus Center four days a week. She's a double major in Business and Accounting. While she's not working or studying, she is the Special Events Coordinator of LC-CAB.
For Welcome Week, Lindsey scheduled many events from Monday, August 28, through Saturday September, 3.
For Monday, there was the very entertaining Scratch Track Music in a tent outside North Hall at 8 p.m. The singer recorded his own beat-boxing at the beginning of each song and then played it throughout the song. One other highlight was when Erik Sauld got up and sang/ rapped 'Sugar on my tongue...' with the musicians. In between songs, he would tell stories about his adventures touring the United States, and meeting such celebrities as Kristin Kreuk from the TV series "Smallville," and other various bands.
On Tuesday, Johnsmith, a musician, played acoustic guitar at the Daily Grind at 3 p.m. Freshmen Chris Fuerste said, "I thought it was really good. Great singing, great guitar playing. He is really talented." Later in the evening, The Late Night Players Sketch Comedy had a show outside the Campus Center.
Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. there was an Inflatable Carnival in front of the Campus Center. Lindsey stated, "It was supposed to help bring the carnival theme to Lakeland."
There was an inflatable obstacle course and other various inflatable activities. Most of the fun seemed to stem from the free spray-on tattoos, snow cones, and cotton candy "which ran out so all we could have were snow cones," said Neal Grosskopf.
Karaoke Night took place on Thursday in the pub. Lindsey said, "I heard it was the best Karaoke Night we have ever had." Songs sung included, "I'm a Barbie Girl," "Pretty Fly for a White Guy," "Ice, Ice Baby," and "Stayin' Alive."
On Friday, a Bowling Party was held at JB's in Howards Grove. Of which, it was heard that everyone had a great time. But there was one unaccounted injury, it had to do with a girl's thumbnail.
To end Welcome Week, shuttles to the Sheboygan County Fair were organized to take Lakeland students for free.
Lindsey commented after the conclusion of Welcome Week that organizing these events was no easy task. "It was extremely time consuming, but in the end, it was worth it."
Welcome Week was designed for "everyone," Lindsey said, "but mostly freshmen, so they wouldn't get homesick the first few days." As far as troubles went, Lindsey said everything went well. It was a positive experience for her, and as it is her job, she will be organizing more of these events in the future. The next chain of events Lindsey will be organizing is the Welcome Back week in January, when everyone heads back to school after Christmas Break.
