Football undefeated in conference

Muskies riding conference wins to a 2-0 record in conference and 2-3 overall
Lakeland varsity football certainly made a turn for the better as it began its conference schedule two weeks ago. Faced up against conference foes Greenville and Benedictine, the Muskies did exactly what everyone expected them to do at the beginning of the season: they won.

Lakeland football won its fifth straight conference opener against Greenville on Sept. 23, with a score of 28-13. After a high-strength non-conference schedule that left the Muskies with a record of 0-3, this win begins the defense of the CheeseBowl, which has been in Lakeland's possession for two years straight.

The Muskie defense certainly was the story in this 14-0 win against Benedictine on Sept. 30. The Benedictine Eagles only gained 93 yards of total offense on 13 drives earning Lakeland its first shut out of the season. Freshman Isiah Calhoun scored his first touchdown of the season and of the game with a 35-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Brad Wilk in the second quarter.

A.J. Allmendiger takes the checkered flag at Road America for the Champ Car World Series
Round 12 of the 2006 Champ Car World Series ended on Sunday, Sept. 24 with A.J. Allmendinger, who started in fifth, winning the 51 lap race. Allmendinger became the first American born driver to win at Road America in the Champ Car Series since Michael Andretti took the checkered flag in 1996.

Goosen turns in lightning scorecards for Muskies
When it comes to the men's golf team, junior Justin Goosen seems to be the only bright spot. The Sheboygan native is the sole member of the team who has placed in the three tournaments that Lakeland has competed in. At the Marian Invitational on Sept. 10 and 11, Goosen shot a 77 on day one and an 84 on day two.

Muskies seek a positive ending
Women's tennis is coming to a close with a current record of 2-12. The Lady Muskies were outscored 31 matches to 95 and shut out six times. This year's team has little to be optimistic about. "Everyone knew this would be a building year," said Coach Ben Oestreich.

The Women's Soccer Team continues to dominate in the Northern Athletics Conference, with a 2-0-1 record, and momentum going into the next week. The Lady Muskies are currently sitting at a 6-4-1 record going into solid conference play for the rest of the year.

With the beginning of the season out of the way, the Men's soccer team looks to improve upon its record in conference play in the newly formed Northern Athletics Conference. The men's team is currently 2-7 overall with their two wins coming in conference play.

The Lakeland women's volleyball team has recently lost three out of four games in the UW-Platteville tournament. Those losses drop the Muskies record to 9-8. Their conference record of 2-1 puts them in a three-way tie for fourth with Concordia-Chicago and Rockford.

The Lakeland women's volleyball team lost three out of four matches over the weekend of September 29 and 30 at the two day tournament in UW-Platteville. The Muskies came out fired up and steam rolled the first opponent, Clarke College, with three games that were exactly the same score 30-16, 30-16, 30-16.

Muskies win NAC home opener

The Lakeland women's volleyball team beat the Benedictine Eagles on September 20 in four games 30-27, 30-23, 11-30, 30-26. "Kim Linger, after missing two games this weekend, was definitely our go-to player at important times," head coach Chad Schreiber said.

The Muskies women's volleyball team dropped three out of four games to Marian on September 26 by a score of 30-23, 28-30, 30-26, 30-26. Lakeland only achieved a .162 hitting percentage on the night.

The Lakeland Muskies destroyed the Northland LumberJacks in three straight games 30-20, 30-10, 30-20 in the Moose and Dona Woltzen Gymnasium on September 23. Lakeland looked good in the first game with a .216 hitting percentage, but turned it up a notch by hitting .

MacArthur White, junior captain of Muskie varsity football, has caught 19 passes for 199 yards in the two most recent games against conference foes, Greenville and Benedictine. Two of White's catches in the game against Greenville went for touchdowns aiding the Muskies in a 28-13 victory.
