College students have one common goal—to graduate and get a decent job. They've come to Lakeland to get the education to achieve that goal.

Unfortunately, many college students fail to realize another very important skill they must learn—dressing for success. What you choose to wear is very personal, but it has a time and a place.

Clothing is said to reflect one's personality. It gives an image of who someone is, and what he/she represents to others. This image is extremely important in acquiring a job. While with friends it may seem cool to have blue hair or wear extremely baggy pants, a potential employer probably will not agree.

In general, an employer looks for someone that is neat, well dressed, and portrays an air of confidence. The first visual impression you give is extremely important. In addition, employers look for these following turnoffs during an interview: men should not have long hair or wear white socks, and women should not overuse makeup, wear low cut or tight shirts, or too much jewelry.

While it's important in college to express oneself, don't forget that you must prepare for the future interview.

The website www.hdbinc.com/dress.htm offers additional information on dressing for success.
