Lakeland's Information Technology Department and the Library Department have made it possible for commuters to access databases from outside the school. Previously, students could only access these resources on campus.
Badger Link, Pro quest, Psych Info, and J Stor are some of the databases available, which include index newspapers and index magazines. Some of them are full text, meaning students can get access to the complete text without having to subscribe to the publication.
The following are instructions on how to use the online journals:
1. Go to http://www.lakeland.edu
2. Click on "Student Resources"
3. Choose "ON Campus" or "OFF Campus" depending on where you are
4. Login to Citrix, User ID libuser and password spring03
5. Click on "Lakeland Library Access Page."
From there the journals will be available. Step four is only for students off campus. Students on campus don't need a password for accessing the database.
There are more phases to come in this project. The IT Department is working to make this online database accessible to life-long learning students as well. Students of Lakeland College-Japan could also to have access to these online journals, for example. The speed of database access will depend on the speed of the network being used, IT staff said.
If there are any problems accessing the databases, call the IT help desk at extension 1643.
