At the end of February, Lakeland College Campus Activities Board (CAB) made some structural changes, allowing flexibility for students to attend meetings.
In the past, CAB mainly held a couple large meeting for all committees-homecoming and Spring Fling, comedy and concert series, WAVE, and special events. Now the chair of each committee will hold a smaller meeting just for events relating to that committee. So students who only want to attend a meeting on homecoming events don't have to sit through all the other discussions.
CAB made these changes "to try to get more students involved" said former president Amy Coonan. "People don't have a chance to feel like they accomplished something after the meeting because we're covering so many things, whereas in a smaller, more focused group, a person who's part of that committee will have more responsibility so they'll feel like they've accomplished something more."
This changes also allows for more flexibility in scheduling meetings, since they are conducted in smaller groups. There will still be larger meetings periodically.
All students are invited to attend meetings, but ultimately the committee chairs have the final say in what events the campus will host. To those who say there's not enough to do on campus, Coonan said, "Come to meetings. Get your opinion out. Tell us what you want on campus."
New executive members of LC-CAB are Nick Hovde, president; Justin Monty, treasurer; Jamie Sikma, vice president; Jeremiah Fetzer, WAVE; Jennifer Unterbrink, special events; Jennifer Nagy, homecoming and Spring Fling; and Heather Salm, secretary and public relations. The comedy/concert series position is still open.
