About 350 high school students from seven districts attended Lakeland College's 19th annual Humanities Fair Tuesday, April 22.

For most of the past 19 years, Dr. Reinhard Ulrich, emeritus professor of philosophy and religion, has been the driving force behind the program. This year, Dr. Karl Kuhn, assistant professor of religion, has been the faculty liaison for the program.

The fair commenced at 8:00 a.m. with a welcome and announcements by Dr. Martin Ulrich, creative arts division chair, and Colleen Drueck, the Humanities Fair coordinator. It went through 2:00 p.m. Students chose from five workshop sessions per timeframe where nineteen faculty members, some assisted by students, were presenters. The presentations stressed the disciplines of foreign language, art, music, history, poetry, philosophy, literature, and science.

Drueck, a third-time Humanities Fair program coordinator, stated that the fair would not be possible without the help of many people at Lakeland. The workshops were a grace of faculty presenters, some of whom included Lakeland students.

There were several notable presentations. Karl Elder, Fessler professor of creative writing, also participated in presenting Nudes in All Their Finery, a poetry reading. Martha Schott, director of student communications, assisted by Chris Wessel, presented Phenomenal PhotoShop! David Lynch, director of academic advising, presented The Art of the Written Chinese Word.

The Assistant Professor of Art, William Weidner, presented portraiture as Denis Presnell-Weidner, assistant professor of Art presented work under the theme The Mighty Pigeon River. Arthur Johnson, assistant professor of Music education presented on classical improvisation. Dr. Reinhard Ulrich presented Making Sense and Nonsense Count.

These presentations provided a variety of disciplines for the participants' wide choice. Several students testified the importance of diverse disciplines. Peter Ulrickson of Sheboygan Falls High School commended the wide variety of programs from which he could chose a discipline to study when he gets to college. "This is the second time I am participating in this fir and I can see that I will not have problems choosing my major once I go to college," he said. Doug Arthur from the same school said he liked the chance to attend many workshops where he enjoyed various presenters. It was the second time Ulrickson and Arthur had come to the fair.

Drueck also commended the great role the Lakeland food service played during the fair. The participants enjoyed the good food provided to them at lunch hour. Erin Koening of Howards Grove High school said that besides the variety of programs she attended to, she enjoyed the food in the cafeteria. "I wish the program run for a week so I could eat more of Lakeland's food because it is very nice," Koening said.

Blong Thao of Sheboygan North High School said, "I have explored a lot of areas at the college while attending to a variety of presentations and I just had a very good lunch in the Bossard Hall," Thao explained.
