Honey Tongue, crowned "Buzz Band of 2003" by GoGirlsMusic, continues its fall tour with a free all-ages performance for Lakeland College students, faculty and staff on the Campus Center Lawn, Thursday September 25 at 7 pm. For additional info call the Student Activities Office at 1235.
Named "Touring Artist of the Year", by Seattle Area Music Awards, Honey Tongue's jaunt is in support of their debut full-length release, Take Me Anywhere (Naga Night Records). Produced by Brett Eliason (Pearl Jam, Neil Young, R.E.M, Jewel) Cincinnati's Citybeat describes the 12 songs, "a pop hookiness while still retaining the power and energy of straight up rock & roll." A recent deal with Burnside Distribution will make the disc available in retail outlets across the country. Thus, fans along this tour route on the West Coast, to the Rockies, Midwest, and Southwest will be able to savor the gritty power-pop/rock long after the quartet has left for the next city. Sporting a road-warrior ethic entrenched in winning fans on a show-by-show basis, the female-led foursome spends most of the year on the road, playing upwards of 200 shows annually across the U.S. and Canada.
Relentless touring has proven a boon, not only in building a strong, loyal international fan base, but in providing inspiration for songs covering subjects as diverse as the root causes of tragic school shootings ("Senator") and the sometimes desperate attempt to cling to love while chasing one's dreams ("Like Diamonds"). "Life on the road gives you a lot of time to reflect on yourself, others and the world around you." lyricist/vocalist Jen Ayers asserts. A brief respite from the road last Fall gave Ayers the opportunity to be featured in platinum recording artist Shaggy's music video for "Strength of a Woman" from his current album Lucky Day.
Honey Tongue is Ayers (vocals/keyboards), Graham McNeill (guitar), Sam Larson (bass/vocals), and Darton Lewis (drums). Though three of the four are originally from the Midwest, the band formed in Seattle in 2000.
