A New Face On Chase

Issue date: 9/30/03 Section: News
The Quasius Construction Company is putting the finishing touches on the Lucius P. Chase Center, which went through a renovation that started on May 1, 2003. The main project was done on August 30, but there are a few things that still need to be done.

The outside of the Chase building is surrounded by mulch and stone. Inside the mulch area is an array of different plants. Also, the sidewalks were all redone, but the sidewalk that travels from the east doors to the north doors was taken out. The outside walls were restored and touched up by filling in the huge gaps made by the old design. In addition, the symbols on the exterior walls were touched up along with refurbishing the roof.

The inside of the Chase building is where the biggest renovations occurred. Air conditioning was installed along with a state of the art ventilation system. The lighting system, along with new tiling in the hallways, was changed to brighten up the interior. The new décor in the hallways consists of wood molding and newly painted walls in addition to an aqua and off-white floor color scheme. All of the rooms had the floors redone as well as new doors installed and walls painted. Many of the rooms switched the direction in which the students faced. There now are lounges for the students to sit and study in. The lounges are fully furnished and are found on the first and second floors. The entire faculty also received new offices. Additionally, there is now a faculty lounge upstairs across from the computer lab. The Mirror and Spectrum offices were repainted and redone as well.

The science labs have new hoods as well as new incubators. These labs were also redone to give more space to the students. Tiered classrooms are no longer present at the end of the first floor because they have been replaced by two classrooms. The basement and first floors have all gotten new tables and chairs for the classrooms, replacing the individual desks that resided in them. These rooms have also received new projectors. The computer labs have been refurnished with flat screen style monitors and new towers. Furthermore, there are two computer labs on the top floor: one is mainly for the students to use as a resource and the other is for teachers to use as an alternate classroom for group projects.
