Is there more money given to certain sports? I desperately wanted to find the answer to both of these questions because, at first, I was a little unsure about where all the money from the athletic department was going as far as each sport was concerned. I had thought that maybe the smaller teams were dealt an unfair hand. There were also some rumors going around about larger teams getting to go on awesome trips. So the question is who is paying for all these trips?

After talking to the head of athletic department, Jane Bouche, I found out a few things. There are certain factors that go into how much money each team will be given. She informed me that each coach puts his or her budget together based on roster size. Then he or she will have to determine how many uniforms need to be ordered. If a team is not that large, then of course they won't get as much money for uniforms and such.

So what about the larger trips that the teams take? Well, the school will pay for any trip per team up to 300 miles, and anything after that is up to the team to fund. For example the girls' basketball team came up with the rest of the money they needed to get them to their destination through fundraisers. Other teams on campus also come up with their own fundraising ideas such as brat fries, sweatshirt sales, and so on.

Coach Bouche said that the athletic department is trying to get all of the sports teams to a more competitive level. The ultimate goal is to do more recruiting for some of the smaller teams such as tennis, cross country, and golf. Coach Bouche said that she wants every team to feel success, no matter what.
