The women's volleyball team has been unstoppable of late, winning their last seven matches dating back to the October fourth Ripon meeting, including five straight Lake Michigan Conference matches.
The third win of the streak was a victory against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with the score ending at 34-32, 30-16 and 30-19 on Thursday night, October 9, 2003. The key players of the game were Lana Neuman with 42 assists, 13 digs and, three blocks; Melissa Braaksma with10 kills, seven blocks, and two aces and Captain Monica Draeger with 13 kills in which she averaged a .323 hitting percentage.
On October 11, they hosted a triangular match against conference foes Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and Wisconsin Lutheran. The girls defeated MSOE in three games, 30-12, 30-20, and 30-16, and then easily beat Wisconsin Lutheran, 30-8, 30-12 and 30-18, improving their undefeated conference record to 6-0. Resi Ertler led the Muskies with 13 kills 10 digs and two aces against MSOE and Jen Kwilosz added 10 digs and five aces. Against Wisconsin Lutheran, Monica Draeger had 12 kills and four blocks, and Melissa Braaksma added eight kills and six blocks.
Braaksma was named Lake Michigan Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after the four Muskie victories, averaging a hitting percentage of .443, totaled 37 kills and 25 blocks.
A week after the home triangular, the Muskies traveled to Madison for another conference triangular against Concordia and host Edgewood. Amy Lieske (15 kills and 14 digs) and Monica Draeger (13 kills) helped the Muskies cruise to a 30-17, 30-14, and 30-14 victory over Concordia. In the match against Edgewood, Melissa Braaksma (11 kills, seven blocks, and two aces) and Lana Neuman (42 assists, seven digs, and two aces) handed in terrific games, leading the girls to a 30-26, 30-13, and 30-18 win.
