A Word From Our President
Giving Lakeland students a voice on campus
Luke Pfeifer - Student Association President
Issue date: 11/6/03 Section: Opinions
I want to thank everyone for their encouraging comments and thoughts on my previous article. Your opinions and thoughts really do matter and you, the students, are doing a great job of contributing to this community. I would like to take a moment to thank everyone in LC-Cab and all the other organizations that helped organize Homecoming 2003. I feel we had a very successful homecoming, great job everyone!
In order to encourage student feedback, I am encouraging all Student Association members to hold talk-back sessions in their area so we can get more feedback on how we can help improve Lakeland College overall. I encourage all students, staff, and faculty to join these sessions so we can get your feedback. Along with the talk back sessions, a small survey is being put together by SA in order to get feedback in certain areas of student life. These surveys will be performed during lunch in the upcoming weeks. I highly encourage you to participate and again give your thoughts.
Concerns have been brought up recently in SA regarding the visitation policy, The Spectrum, and the convocation system at Lakeland. SA has already put together a proposal for the visitation policy (2am overnight guest rule) and I will ensure I keep you all abreast of the latest development in that proposal. The other concerns are currently being investigated and we strongly need your input, so please give it.
A number of exciting events are happening in SA, including planning student get-togethers, yoga classes, and self-defense classes. Watch the campus center for information as to what exciting event we have planned for the night of November 14.
It is hard to imagine the semester is already half complete. I highly encourage each and every one of you to make use of the Academic Resource Center on the top floor of Old Main. This is a great resource and can help you get that boost in a low grade if you need it. It is not too late to get the low grade moved up to a higher grade. Good luck in the second half of this fast moving semester. Along with exams, this time of the year can be difficult in relationships, friendships, and just plain old stress. Make use of our campus resources including the counselor, who is available two days a week in the afternoon free of charge. This is a great time for me to add in a thank you to everyone who has helped make Lakeland a success this year, from our athletes, to our organizations, to our student leaders, to all the other students, faculty, and staff. Thank you for contributing to this Lakeland community and making it a strong and inviting community.
With that being said there are always issues that stand up in the minds of students. Please tell us about them, as we value your input. E-mail any SA member, come to an SA meeting, or leave a voicemail to set up a meeting with us by calling x-1210. As always, I conclude this article with a few questions I pose in order to receive the opinions of the students. Please email me your thoughts at pfeiferl@lakeland.edu or send them to Box 3017. Remember, meetings are at 6:30pm every Wednesday in Laun 210, and everyone is encouraged to attend. There will not be a meeting the week of Thanksgiving break.
1) What are your thoughts on the convocation program at Lakeland?
2) Do you feel we should switch back to a year book or stay with a year disc?
