After beating the Maranatha Crusaders on October 14, the Lakeland men improved to a 7-7-1 overall record before traveling to Mequon to face the Concordia Falcons. The Muskies were still undefeated in the Lake Michigan Conference, and when they showed up they felt confident that they would win.
Their desire grew when they were the first to score. The person who scored was Freshman Scott Kress. With that goal, Kress also set the Lakeland Men's Soccer single-season scoring record. However, after that the game went downhill. The Falcons scored the next five goals to finish out the game with a score of 5-1.
The men knew they had to get over that terrible loss and look to the next game at home against their arch rivals the Edgewood Eagles, for they knew the win would help them get a better playoff spot. Kress was again the first to score for the Muskies with an assist from Carmelo Teran. The Eagles answered with a goal of their own and evened the score at one. Not too much later, Kress would score his second goal of the day with another assist from Teran. The Eagles responded again, evening the score at two this time. Teran would give the Muskies the lead again at 3-2 before the end of the period.
The Eagles stormed back early in the second period to even the score for the third time at 3-3. Kress scored again to finish off his hat trick day and give the Muskies the lead for a fourth time at 4-3. However, the defense couldn't hold on to the lead and gave up another tying goal. The game headed to overtime where neither team could score. The same would hold true throughout a second overtime and the game would end in a hard fought, 4-4 tie.
The tie gave Edgewood the edge over the Muskies for second place in the conference. The Muskies entered the tournament seeded third and ended up facing the Maranatha Crusaders for the first round of the playoffs at home on November 1. The Muskies pulled out with the 4-0 victory with Kress at the helm again. He contributed on all four Muskie goals, scoring one, assisting two, and setting up Adam Sherwood's penalty kick.
