Can you feel it? Can you smell it? Yes, it seems that there is a difference in the air. Could it be the smell of cow dung? No, that smell has been gone for awhile. Could it be the smell of victory? Victory has a smell? Well, if it did, then it is definitely lingering around campus due to the sports teams, but that isn't what I sense. What could it be?
I bet you have figured it out just as I have. There is an aura that has brought a different sensation to this campus. "The Lakeland College Mirror" is creating this stir. How can a newspaper create any kind of aura? When the style of the paper changes.
I am not just talking about layout changes or editor changes, although we have a new editor-in-chief (Reed Stratton) and new section editors in all the sections except one. No, I am talking about the content of "The Mirror." What has been showing up is personal opinions, risqué articles, geese, strange articles about things not pertaining to Lakeland, and picture editing. Is this a good thing for "The Mirror?"
As most of you know, I am the one that people could call "Mr. Survey", but they don't because that is a stupid name. If you don't believe me, then check the opinions section and look who does Mr. Survey. Don't worry, I can wait. See, I told you so. Anyways, I was interested on what the readers of "The Mirror" thought about the Lakeland newspaper.
The main reason why I do Mr. Survey is to find a consensus of the campus on a topic (and talk to cute girls, but that is another issue). The topic of "The Mirror" was chosen because there have been people concerned on what this newspaper is printing. I thought it was just articles and pictures, but I too have felt a different vibe from "The Mirror" this year.
Hence, I set out to find what the readers thought of "The Mirror." I collected data from 115 different people by just walking around and asking questions. Yes, it is that simple, but it can be incredibly time consuming.
What I found as a vibe from surveying people and the actual answers from the survey was that "The Mirror" is doing quite well. Yes, people did say that it needs some work, but compared to previous years, it is quite better. Being that our newspaper doesn't get feedback from anybody directly, I thought the results came out quite fantastic.
