Dr. Keith Striggow, professor of education and sociology, is recovering and preparing for surgery after what appeared to be a cardiac arrest, a friend of the family said.
Striggow, who was attending a meeting with other faculty members, went slack in his chair and seemed to be in distress, according to Dr. Tom Marcy, director of academic assessment.
He was transported to St. Nicholas hospital for preliminary examination, then transferred to St. Luke's hospital in Milwaukee. As of Tuesday, November 19, he was listed in stable condition, and is tentatively scheduled for bypass surgery on Friday.
Striggow, who suffered a heart attack six or seven years ago and has a history of heart problems, has been employed at Lakeland since 1973.
