There is only a month left, and the fall semester of 2003 will be in the history books. Our semester is ending with a bang, with numerous events that have taken place. LC-Cab did an excellent job of organizing Casino Night on Thursday, Nov. 13; I thank them for all their work this year.
Student Association (SA) hosted the first annual Monster Bowl 2003, which turned out to be a huge success. The committee, which consisted of Leeann Hupfer, Chris Tourtellott, Michael Kaczmarek, Monica Hetzel, and me, worked hard on this event. I want to thank everyone for his or her hard work. We figure over 150 people attended this event. We had 12 lanes of six people each bowling for almost four consecutive hours. I encourage all to send comments to committees to ensure the event successfully continues year after year.
As I explained in my last article, I encourage all Student Association members to hold talk back sessions in their areas. This way we can get more feedback on how we can help improve Lakeland College overall. A majority of these sessions have or are taking place in the month of November. SA will take this vital feedback and compile it in order to better serve the students of Lakeland. In addition, SA completed a short survey last week on some student concerns. We will be reviewing these results in our upcoming SA meetings.
Besides the Monster Bowl and the above listed surveys, SA has organized and dealt with a number of other issues. SA has proposed that the 2 a.m. visitation policy be removed for all apartment and suite residents. We hope to hear a response on this soon. Laura LeClair, our Women's Issues Coordinator, has been planning self-defense classes, and Aubri Rote, our Health and Wellness Coordinator, has been planning food advisory board meetings and yoga classes. SA also recently decided to hold the Valentines Day dance in February, and we have also decided to contribute to the purchasing of emergency cases for the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) that were the subject of a fundraiser last year. These cases will have an alarm on them so that they can kept in public places for easy access in the case of an emergency. In the event that the glass is broken to remove the AED an alarm will sound.
