New Facility will cost approximately $4.5 million

Two additions to the campus that will be priced at about $10.5 million and will add twenty percent more to the ground area of the school are now being planned. These additions are the expansion of the Wehr Center and the creation of a new dorm. The board will review both projects on January 28.

Following a series of reported thefts of items on campus, Lakeland's Department of Safety and Security has implemented certain measures in attempt to minimize the crimes.

How changes will affect graduation requirements

Along with the move to the new three- credit system, the general studies curriculum will also be changing. Students will benefit because the total number of required general studies credits will be reduced as compared to current requirements. This reduction will allow students to choose more courses in their major, minor, or electives.
How convocations are chosen, and why they re changing

This year's convocation committee includes eight faculty/staff members, one student representative and two non-faculty/staff members.
In previous years, the number of convocations was larger in comparison to the past year and this year. The committee decided to bring in acts that would attract more interest from students.

The meeting began with an IGC announcement that there will be a Greek Christmas drive on December 15 that includes things such as Toys for Tots.
Next, Tourtellott and Kaczmarek, in student services, tallied up the results of their survey. It showed that most people would rather have a yearbook instead of the yeardisk and that the Safe Space program is a good idea to most students.
New computers on campus causing unpredicted problems

Students have been encountering problems with the new Dell computers that Lakeland bought over summer break. The problems have been plaguing students since the beginning of the semester.
These problems include, but are not limited to, such things as the computers not turning on or not logging onto the network after the user inputs his or her username and password.

Theater majors, James Hayes and Michael Eberhardy will be performing their own unique 1-man comedy show on Friday, December 12th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Bradley building. This production is part of their theater major requirements. There will be individual performances by each comedian followed by a joint performance.
What can be done about sexual assault at colleges

On April 5, 1986, Jeanne Ann Cleary, a freshman at Lehigh University in Bethlehem Pennsylvania, was beaten, raped, tortured and sodomized before she was finally killed by another Lehigh student she didn't know. He had gained access to her room through entry doors that had been left propped open by other students living in the dorm.
Students can explore Japanese culture while attending school

Last year a program was launched to send Lakeland College students from this campus over to the campus in Japan. There have been several Lakeland College-Japan students that have been coming over, so naturally a program for our students to go over there eventually came into place.

* Out of this same study, only 27% of the women identified themselves as rape victims.
* The prime dating age, 16 to 24, is also the age at which the risk of rape is four times higher than for any other population group (Warshaw, 1988).
