The Lakeland College Men's Club Volleyball team has had an amazing run the past few seasons. Last season, the Muskies finished with a record 43-9-2 on the season and placed second at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) tournament to extend their stay in the national top 25 to four seasons. The only team the Muskies could not defeat during the season was the one team that kept them second at the end, MATC, who beat Lakeland in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Tournament and the national tournament. Currently, the Muskies are ranked number one in the country in Division II and hope to stay atop the rankings throughout the season.
Senior Rocky Koenig, who was named NIRSA's 2003 All-Tournament Libero, will lead a very diverse group of players, with six seniors, five juniors, four sophomores, and five freshmen. Tournament First Team selection and the team's Most Valuable Player, Dave Koch, along with Second Team selection and the team's Most Improved Player, Chris Gornik, will also look to help the Muskies return to the tournament and finish the season with a win.
Hopes are high and the possibilities are endless for this talented group of Muskies. Expect some special things to happen this season.
The Muskies' first match of the season is on January 17 at the Midwest 10 Tournament.
