If you had to name one player that stood out during the 2003 women's volleyball season for Lakeland College, you would have to name Monica Draeger. She was the driving force of the Lady Muskies this year as they took home another Lake Michigan Conference Championship.
This year alone, she has compiled a list of awards that boggles the mind. Draeger has received Player of the Week 5 times of the 11 possible, Team MVP, Team Offensive player of the Year, LMC Player of the Year, first team All-LMC, first team All-Region, and honorable mention All-American.
This volleyball superstar came from Lake Mills, Wisconsin. She started playing volleyball in fifth grade and went on to play in Lakeside High School and a club team at the same time.
Playing for the Lakeside High School, her team went to state her junior and senior year and was awarded Team MVP her senior year. The club team Draeger played in did well also, but awards are not given in club competition.
Draeger decided to come and play for Lakeland for a few reasons. Lakeland appealed to her because it was small, private, the religious aspect, and Coach Chad Schreiber. She is a senior planning on graduating next semester with a major in general education and a minor in sociology.
In her free time, she enjoys listening to music (especially country), movies (especially chick-flicks), and shopping.
After college, she is going to "get a job somewhere," but plans to continue her involvement in volleyball by joining recreational leagues.
