Being conference Player of the Year last year and Preseason Player of the Year, Ricky Davis is expected to lead the men's basketball team to new heights. This six foot guard phenom has shown the ability to lead the team to a 19-8 (10-2 conference) finish last year.
Davis came from Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he began shooting hoops when he was just four years old. Playing against his big brother that was five years older than him created some heated competition that could only help Davis.
Organized basketball started in second grade at Maryland Avenue Elementary. He then played in middle and high school. In Milwaukee Vincent High School, he played on varsity at the end of his sophomore year and all of his junior and senior year.
Davis won many awards his senior year such as Most Improved Player, Defensive Player of the year, and his team won the state championship. He also was awarded with perfect attendance and made the honor roll.
Lakeland was Davis's last choice for a college because he waited too long to start looking around. He liked that it was a small college and that he received some financial aid. At Lakeland, he has made an impression on the college. Last year at Lakeland, Davis also received first team All-Conference and second team All-Midwest.
He is looking to graduate this May, majoring in criminal justice with a minor in sociology. Although this was the last choice for college, Davis will miss Lakeland, namely the team and the community.
