On Tuesday, January 2, Kim Krause had just returned from a business trip. It was turning out to be a normal day for the Manager of the Campus Shop, but she had no idea what was in store for her that day.
Later that day, she was unloading a truck with a co-worker. In the middle of unloading, they thought that something quick had run past them. They went back into the store and heard meowing and a rustling by the chips. That is when Krause realized that one of the campus cats, too old to be considered a kitten but not fully grown, got into her store.
Some of the cats on campus stay next to the heater where bookstore employees unload the truck to keep warm for the winter. There is even a mother watching over a litter of kittens in that area. Krause knew how protective mothers are with their young, so she just left them alone.
Krause knew that the school store was no place for an animal. Hence, she wanted to get the furry feline out of the store. First, she attempted to shoo it out of the store, but it didn't work.
The next attempt involved catching the four legged ball of fur. This was done successfully with a coat, but when Krause picked up the coat with the critter inside, the feline worked its way free.
After a whole day's work of trying to rid the store of the cat, they decided to give up and go home for the day. Krause figured that the furry store prowler could stay in the store overnight, and they would just get it out of the store the next day.
Unfortunately, Krause received a call from Carl Constable during the night. The feline had set off the alarms of the store. It seems that the cat was getting to her even when she wasn't at work.
The next day, Krause was determined to remove the animal from the store and was concerned with its health. She decided to try to lure it out with some water, but that didn't work because the feline would not go close to the doors leading outside.
The grey ball of fur seemed tame as it approached Krause that day while she was at her computer. Krause waited until the cat was close and tried to grab it, but the feline proved to be too fast for her. This is when she decided to call maintenance.
The cat was hiding under some shelves, so maintenance had to rip them out to capture the cat. After the small feline was captured, one of the temporary employees of the store took it home to care for it. It now lives in a warm place and has been named Precious, a second alternative to the original, Bandit.
