The week started out with a Residence Life program. The RA's had a meeting to make sure everything was going well and the rules were followed. Tuesday was a day for Karaoke in the Pub, continued with the Miss Muskie competition on Wednesday, sponsored by Beta Sigma Omega. Thursday's event was a competition of Family Feud between the Greeks with Tim Romanello hosting. The event was sponsored by Lakeland Media Connect. Friday was a movie marathon in Bossard Hall; it was sponsored by Residence Life, and the week concluded with a tubing trip to Sunburst ski area on Sunday.
Jenn Unterbrink, special events coordinator of LC-CAB, was responsible for the organization of the events. Unterbrink, in cooperation with LC-CAB, chose the themes for the Welcome Back Week, and many organizations approached her to provide ideas or ask for help with chosen events.
"The more people that come to LC-CAB meetings, the better input and program we can provide. We just need to convince the people to come to the events. If they do, they will enjoy it," Unterbrink said.
LC-CAB president, Nicholas Hovde added, "The purpose of the Welcome Back Week is to get students together to start the spring semester with a bang. It gets new students a chance to mingle with the students who are already here and so forth. Overall, we just want everyone to have a little fun to start the spring semester."
Many of the events will be continued throughout the years. According to Unterbrink, Family Feud, "Has potential to be done again". The Miss Muskie competition was a success and would be a great competition for next year.
"I would love to see the Miss Muskie contest become an annual event and I would hope that the activity can continue because how can you have a king and no queen?" Hovde said.
Like Amanda Louden stated, "Overall, the week went well. It provided students to reconnect with the campus from break and we are always looking for more ways to encourage people to join our events and to be involved in LC-CAB".
Any students who would like to contribute to Welcome Back Week next year, or any other events on campus, should let LC-CAB know about their ideas. The best way is to come to the LC-CAB meetings and let them know in person. The meetings are every Tuesdays at 6 pm in Laun 210.
