This January, Food service has sprung some additions on students and staff. With the advent of the new semester, The Daily Grind espresso bar and a Grab 'N Go cooler have been added to campus as food options. Call-ins have also been re-instated for the Muskie Mart.
The new campus coffee shop, called The Daily Grind, officially opened on January 13. There students and staff will find many flavors of espresso and a variety of fruit smoothies. You can get breakfast there as well, consisting of a beverage, a muffin and fruit, using cash or Muskie Money, or money on your card. The shop's tentative hours are 7:00 am to 2:00 pm weekdays and 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm weekdays and Saturdays. Currently, food service is thinking of extending the afternoon hours.
The Grab 'N Go is a new service running during the lunch hour from 10:15 to 1:30 Mondays through Fridays. Through this program, students can get a quick lunch consisting of a sub, sushi, or pizza. The fresh subs and sushi come with a choice of chips or fruit and a beverage. Each meal from the Grab 'N Go is the equivalent of a regular meal or a flex meal. No cash is accepted for meals; however, students can use money that is on their card. So far, students have readily accepted the new service.
"We've been averaging over 100 transactions during lunch," states Food Services Director Dale Carlson.
In addition to these changes, Muskie Mart Call-ins are back. Soon a metal rack with a plexi-glass front will be installed; it will hold the meals until they are claim.
"I'm glad it's back," says Muskie Mart Manager, Sandy Schema, "It will be a big help to the grill and to the store. Sometimes they'll pick up a candy bar or other items in addition to what they order." It is hoped that the new rack will solve the theft problems of last semester.
