Anyone who has taken a look at Lakeland's website (www.lakeland.edu) since January 12th has been greeted with a bright new appearance and a more student-friendly layout. Marketing Coordinator and Webmaster Elizabeth Sramek is credited for most of the changes, which are meant to streamline the site and integrate new material and a new image.
The changes to the website reflect Lakeland's current view book, which has also been updated for this year. The view book features the tag line "findyourself@Lakeland." This sentiment is echoed in the website, with the new look being more attractive to potential students. There is also much more content in the admissions area than before and more emphasis on campus visits from potential students.
The look of the site, which also matches the view book, is an attempt at achieving a cleaner more professional look than the previous site. One of the most prominent appearance changes is the new homepage, which features five different images randomly displayed each time the page is viewed from up to 25 possible images. In addition, the website now has the capacity to show Flash and streaming movies.
The creation of the website took "a long time" says Sramek. She started work on the new website in June, and began recreating the pages in August. The site, which currently contains over 3000 pages, took about six months in all to complete. "The effort was worthwhile though," says Sramek, "the marketing team anticipates that the new website will assist Lakeland in attracting potential students for years to come."
Aside from Sramek's effort, Alumni Luke Pfeifer created the menus and Skyline Technologies built the frontpage/homepage.
