On Sunday, February 22, 2004 at three in the afternoon, the Lakeland College band will perform in the Bradley Building. The conductor, and new band director, Doctor Eugene Bechen, has worked hard to bring a band that started with 12 members in fall term, to 43 members for this up coming concert.

The current band is not completely consistent of Lakeland college students, as fliers were sent out in spring to the local high schools, directors, and other community areas to pique the interest of musicians. This community band turned down no one, and was created for musicians that want to have fun with music. With this larger community band, Doctor Bechen is will now perform college level music.

Doctor Becher is still not content with the current numbers he has. He eventually hopes to get 50 to 60 players, and have it composed entirely of college students. The current number of students in the band is 28 compared to the 43 total.

Rehearsing only six times for the concert, they will be playing six songs. They will also have the Lakeland College Dixieland Band playing. The Jazz Band, which has Dr. Bechen behind the drum set, includes a piano, bass, clarinet, and drumset.
