In sports terms, the kind of thing the Lakeland College women's basketball team has done in the conference in the last 10 years could be considered a dynasty.

Back on February 7, the Lady Muskies beat Wisconsin Lutheran, 57-47, and clinched the Lake Michigan Conference regular season championship. The title is the sixth in seven years and seventh during the 10-year tenure of head coach April Arvan.

In that game, the Muskies' defense was ferocious, holding the Warriors to 28 percent shooting from the field. That was more than enough to give the Muskies a clear road to victory.

Leading the way for the Muskies was Aubri Rote with 15 points. Renee Steinert and Jenna Boehm contributed to the win with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Even with the conference title sealed, the Lady Muskies weren't about to back down in their next game when they hosted Marian College on February 11.

With a 41-21 lead at the half, Lakeland coasted to the 67-50 Senior Night win behind the inside play of Steinert, Boehm, and Casey Thousand, who is the only senior on the team.

Steinert scored a team-high 18 points while grabbing seven rebounds, Boehm scored 13 and retrieved nine boards, and Thousand scored 11 and had six assists.

On Valentine's Day, the women hosted Maranatha Baptist and didn't show much love to Lady Crusaders, steamrolling them 69-40.

The pesky Crusaders hung with the Muskies for most of the second half until Lakeland ended the half on a 12-2 run, finishing the period with a 36-24 lead.

Steinert, Boehm, and Thousand again led the way for the Muskies. Steinert dropped a game-high 15 points, Boehm scored 13 and grabbed a game-high seven boards, and Thousand sank 14 points and tallied five assists.

In their next game, the women traveled south to Milwaukee to square off against MSOE for their final regular season game. A win would give them their sixth 20 win season in seven years, and their first undefeated conference season since the 1998-99 season.

With a great effort off the bench from Kristi Thill, the Muskies dominated the Red Raiders from start to finish, winning 62-42.

Thill scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. Aubri Rote matched Thill's point output with 16 of her own, and Steinert tallied her sixth double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The win gave the Muskies a 20-5 overall record and a 12-0 conference record. They finished the season as the second best scoring offense in the conference with an average of 67.6 points per game and the best scoring defense at 46.4 points per game.

The Muskies hold the bye for the first round of the conference tournament, and are set to host the winner of the Concordia/MSOE game on Saturday, February 21 at 2 p.m.
