The second album from the band that gave you "It's Not Easy" and the even more popular "Superman" is now on store shelves. Five for Fighting's clever lyrics, calm atmosphere, and meaningful songs continue to flourish throughout their sophomore album.
"The Battle for Everything" begins by painting a serene setting with its first three songs. These songs put you in a mood that feels like being on a beach in the Caribbean, especially "If God Made You," which is about love and thanking God for a lover.
Following the relaxed music is the hit single "100 Years," which talks about how people live their 100 years. Even though this song is slow, it doesn't fit the serenity that the first three emitted. It does, however, have a heartfelt meaning with supporting music in the background that fits.
Song five titled "Angels & Girlfriends" crashes into the setting and vanquishes all of the peace with a song that seems out of character but extremely fun. Two other songs titled "Infidel" and "The Taste" also have a strange, heavier mood. The songs seem to be about confused states of mind; therefore, the out of character music seems appropriate.
The rest of the album creates that same calming mood that puts you in a happy frame of mind. For instance, "Disneyland" depicts the feeling you have when you wake up next to the person whom you love. All of these songs will give you a warm feeling inside as you finish listening to the CD.
Five for Fighting seems to have won "The Battle for Everything" by creating this compilation of songs that create a peaceful atmosphere with the occasional temperament of turmoil, which is just like life.
