It's not easy being the only flamingo in Sheboygan County, but this one gets by traveling the area and digging up treasures of entertainment. Hey, you won't find him on the luge, and his long legs prevent him from getting bubbles up his whoopsidaisy, but he still knows how to have a good time.

Our first stop was the John Michael Kohler and Terry Andrae State Park (Kohler-Andrae for short). Nestled subtly on the banks of Lake Michigan just south of Sheboygan, Kohler-Andrae provides the visitor with numerous options: enjoy the majestic view and walk through acres of giant sand dunes, sunbathe along miles of gorgeous beaches, or spark up the campfire and toast some marshmallows at their 105-unit campground. They even have a teepee set up for a unique camping experience. Don't worry about having to go out of your way to find this little gem; it's a short drive on Highway V from Interstate 43.

For those artsy types, the flamingo explained that there are plenty of things to enjoy in Sheboygan County, specifically Sheboygan itself, where you will find two excellent places to get your fill of just about anything art. The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, located on New York Avenue just east of downtown Sheboygan, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes and encourages "innovative exploration into the arts." Here you can find anything ranging from spectacular art exhibitions to a number of performing arts.

Two blocks away you'll find the Stephanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts (the old Sheboygan Theatre). Located on Eighth Street, the Sheboygan Theatre combines every aspect of the performing arts to make for an incredibly entertaining night.

If you're interested in a stroll along the beach, go ahead and do so at the Lakefront Promenade, which gives way to the Sheboygan River Boardwalk, where you'll find a number of shops and restaurants to help waste some time.

Across the river from the boardwalk, a multi-million dollar project is currently in the works to redevelop the underused South Pier into one of the largest resorts of its kind. The Blue Harbor Resort will not only bring a luxurious hotel to the Sheboygan lakefront, but it will also have 64 condominiums and a 40,000 square foot indoor water park.
