On February, Saturday the 21st, the Lakeland College Men's Tennis team started their season. The Lakeland team has been training for a month by now; although the players go to practices regularly, there are not many available courts or time for the team to practice.
The season's starter players were Turki Berrada, 3rd year returning player, Derrick Cherney, 4th year, Charlie Stockman, 1st year, Rocky Koening, 2nd year, Chriss Thill, 4th year and Ross Lubinski, 1st year.
Each encounter consisted of nine matches; six singles and three doubles. The single matches consist of two sets of six games each, and the double matches consist of one pro-set of eight sets. According to the new rules, the three double matches combined count for one point for the final score; whoever wins two out of three double matches wins the point. The six single matches count as one point each.

The teams played by Lakeland on Saturday were really good teams that do not play in the Michigan conference. "The guys played extremely hard" David Lauer, who is been coaching the tennis team for more than 30 years, said.
After this encounter, the record for the tennis team is 0-2. Lakeland's next encounter will be on April 6 at home.
These first and second games against Saint Norbert's and Calvin College were pre-conference games just to tests the team's skills and to know how each team is doing in their training. The conference tournament will be played on April 23rd and 24th at the Sports Course in Kohler.
