Botti's style has been categorized as contemporary jazz, as well as mainstream pop. You may be thinking this is music for your parents generation, but all of us who listen to and enjoy pop, rap, funk, the blues and even rock are exposed to the roots that jazz laid down in the 1930's and 40's.
This is a great opportunity for Lakeland College students to start their convocation quest off on a high note. And hey, if you are not into this style of music come check out Botti anyway, People magazine named him one of their "50 Most Beautiful People".
Botti's professional career has spanned over a decade and has given him the opportunity to work with some musical legends including Paul Simon, Sting, Paula Cole, Joni Mitchell, and Natalie Merchant, to name a few.
Botti's sixth album, When I Fall In Love, is due in stores Tuesday, September 28, which gives us an excellent opportunity to preview his sounds. This new album has a cover of Sade's "No Ordinary Love," one of my all time favorite songs, as well as a track featuring Sting, who Botti has been playing with since 1999.
Botti's album Night Sessions, released in 2002, hit #2 on the Top Contemporary Jazz album chart, and his album December, released that same year, hit #7 on the chart.
The concert is free to Lakeland College students, $10 for other students, and $20 to the general public. Tickets are available in the Nash building.
