Wehr Center Rennovations

Along with a new school year came "Legacy for Lakeland" a project including the construction of a new dormitory, renovation of the Wehr Center, and renovation of the Chase Center. The construction is expected to be finished August 1 of next year so that fall 2005 students will be able to make use of the new additions to the campus.

This year the students' housing on campus is rather tight, making it necessary for tripling up in rooms, but relief is on the way with the new dorm. The new residence hall is under the watchful eye of Superintendent Lee Voskuil. The workers are currently concentrating on laying down masonry. They will make the outside of the four stories. Then the team hopes to cover and heat the dorm before the winter comes.

Once that is complete, they will take the rest of the time to furnish the inside with insulation, drywall, carpeting and much more.

The future four-story building is well underway and on schedule. Inside the new dormitory will be a three-floor 96-bed facility and a basement. To see what the building will look like, there is a prospective drawing at the south-east side of the new building.

The Wehr Center will include a new gym that will hold 1,200 spectators, a new fitness center, new locker rooms, a classroom and a multi-purpose room.

Another part of the project was the renovation of the Lucius P. Chase Center completed over the summer of 2003. Changes and additions include a student center equipped with tables and chairs, air conditioning, the old grouping of three science labs were conveniently changed to one large lab, and a generously sized computer room with the intention of being used by students who want to study together.

This project is going to cost $15 million and much of that has already been raised and donated by various groups and people throughout the Sheboygan-Manitowoc areas.
