Contrary to what many rumors around Lakeland state, the Student Association (SA) will once again be working together to, as their constitution states, "serve as official representative of the student population... and ...work to improve the quality of life in the college community."
The only difference between other years' and this year's SA is that the executive board has not been elected yet. The election process regularly takes place at the end of the spring semester. Most of you will wonder why the elections did not take place. Current SA President Bonnie Field stated: "There was a lack of response to the application process; there were not enough applicants to fill the open positions so we had to delay the elections until September."
The current executive board is made up of Bonnie Field (president), Charlie VanGinkle (vice president), Leeann Hupfer (secretary) and Resi Ertler will be meeting with the SA advisor Sandy Gibbons-Vollbrecht to decide and plan when the elections will take place for this academic year. Applications for the executive board will be available the last week of September and hopefully the elections will take place the week after that.
To be able to apply for the executive board, a student must have a 2.25 GPA and be in good academic standing with the college. In addition, applicants for the president and vice-president positions must have served at least two academic terms as a voting member of SA, while secretary and treasurer require only one academic term.
After the executive board has been chosen, positions on the cabinet will open and will be filled through an interview process. There will be 16 cabinet positions open. The requirements for a cabinet position are to have at least a 2.25 GPA and to be in good academic standing with the college.
In the 2003-2004 academic year, the first SA meeting (with the cabinet members) was October first. This means, that even though a little late, the current executive board is doing its best not to delay the SA effort to work for the community.
If you have any questions or you would like to apply to any position within SA, please contact Sandy Gibbons-Vollbrecht or Bonnie Field.
