Have you ever wondered if you were working up to your potential in life? Being Better than My Best written by Danny and Marie Lena, talks about how you can work up to your potential in many ways.

The first chapter asks the following questions: What is my best and how can I succeed to achieve my best? The Lenas use several quotes from very prominent people such as Emerson, Einstein and Aldous Huxley to help guide readers towards a better understanding of their full potential.

According to Aldous Huxley, "There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self." The book suggests that we either become our own leaders or we find someone to look up to. The Lenas tell the readers that in order "to raise your own bar, you must not only step outside the box, but live outside the box."

In order for this to happen, you need to intellectualize these ideas. The book suggests that you stop taking things for granted and find new ways to look at life. The Lenas use this quote from Einstein to support this idea: "You cannot change your current conditions with the same thinking that created those conditions." Basically, what he is saying is that you have to find your way out of those conditions without blaming other people.

In Chapter two, the Lenas talk about recreating yourself by using TWA, which stands for Thoughts, Words, and Actions. This can be used during your daily, hourly and minute-to-minute-choices. Depending on the choices you make, your life can either be boring or exciting. After all, it is your choice and not anyone else's. You are who you make yourself to be. According to the Lena's friend Emerson, "Life consists in what a man is thinking of all day." It's all in your mind and not what others think.

Life is not meant to be a struggle. The book suggests that all you really need to make things easier is a daily plan. You should stop thinking about the past because all you really need to think about is the future. The future, as they explain, should be your main priority. If you dwell on past experiences, then it will seem harder to succeed at anything.

The Lenas are a well known couple and awesome motivational speakers. I had the opportunity to attend one of their seminars in High School and learned a lot. I know many of you may think "oh great," but in reality it's good to see them and learn more from other people.
