I was reading a column in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel recently, and besides the blatant pro-Republican slant, I noticed some interesting "facts." (I say "facts" because I don't know how much pro-Bush information you can trust from a pro-Bush source.)

It said that women voters, or "soccer moms," as the female writer referred to them, are more likely to vote for George W. Bush because he seems better fit to protect this country.

(Allow me to take this time to reiterate that I don't support Bush or Senator John Kerry, but for this article's sake, I will probably rip on Bush more to make my point, since Kerry hasn't directly done anything wrong in this matter...YET.)

I thought that the article's "facts" were interesting because there are a hell of a lot of people who are in no danger whatsoever of a September 11-like attack. My question is, how can the citizens of America be so gullibly duped into believing that they are in immediate danger? Do you honestly believe that Lakeland College is the target of the next horrifying tragedy?

I can see how people are empathetic about it, and I am too. I know I don't want to see something like 9/11 happen again. Ever.

However, let's take a look at some things. The attacks on the World Trade Center were the first foreign attacks on American soil since the original attack on the WTC in 1993, eight years before 9/11. And before then, it was Pearl Harbor, 60 years prior to 9/11!

Remember that Oklahoma City bombing was domestic, and even that was 10 years ago.

On to Iraq, where we actually ended up being the terrorists. What?! Yeah, that's right, I said it. Here's why: We went into Iraq to remove weapons of mass destruction. That interests me because what has the United States done to remove our own WMDs? The answer to that is nothing!

In fact, the U.S. has repeatedly refused to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, prohibiting the testing of nuclear weapons worldwide. We have also refused to end all research, testing, and creation of nuclear weapons.
