Wanted: Healthy models, not sickly ones

Madrid gets rid of the skeletons in their fashion closet

Finally, a fashion show that bans models that are too skinny in order to send their fans a message that stick-thin is not in

Early this September Madrid implemented the first ever ban on overly thin models at a top-level fashion show. I would like to applaud Madrid for being the first to get it right.

Madrid has recognized that fashion shows and models have a mass appeal and send a message to all viewers that a woman should look a certain way. The way these models look. Granted, these models have not said "be like me" or "anorexia and bulimia are how I stay thin," but what they look like does have an effect on what many women and, more specifically, teen girls will do to themselves in order to achieve the heroin-chic look.

Yes, there are plus size models, however, the average woman has never really been emphasized anywhere. The idea behind this ban is to show young girls that they don't have to mirror what they see in rail-thin models in order to be beautiful.

This break through astounds me. I have always been of the mindset that women should be healthy and not skinny. It is not a bad thing if women have curves. And most of the women I know do have them. So why is our society so hell-bent on emphasizing the sickly looking skinny woman?

The answer is just this, our society doesn't know crap. And why should we submit to what a collective body of idiots think? We shouldn't.

I don't believe that the beauty of a woman comes from how thin she can look or even how many curves she has. The beauty of a woman comes from inside that woman. No, not her guts, but how healthy she keeps herself inside and out, and what she is like beneath the surface.

For instance, I have met plenty of girls who look good to the untrained eye, but once you talk to them you discover they are either really rude or not highly intellectual. Most of the men I have talked to agree on at least three basic things when it comes to women.

The first being they have to look good, not ratty or unkempt. The second being they either need to be smart enough to share an engaging conversation or just never open their mouths. The third is they should be happy with themselves and not put their bodies down.
