A beautiful Christmas tree was set up in the Muehlmeier lobby. It's intricate, forest-green branches and bright, white lights adjacent to the snow outside the window gave me a cozy and safe feeling. How's that for some description? I guess you could say that I was quite fond of it.

Two days later, I woke up to find the tree had vanished. Tears started to form in my eyes, but I held back while I repeated in my head be strong, don't cry! It may sound pathetic, but as I stated before, I was quite fond of the tree.

The theft affected everyone from Muehlmeier that day-impacting our lives and evoking an emotion of sorrow. Who steals a Christmas tree? One student was seen kneeling in it's place crying, "Why?!"

I got an image in my mind of a nasty green creature dressed in a near-perfect replica of the costume traditionally worn by the great jolly old elf himself (don't forget to take a breath here if you are reading this out loud), packing the top branches of the tree down into a big brown sack while snickering over his own evil deed.

I would describe the thief further, but I'd rather not get sued by a certain doctor.

I feared I would never see the beautiful sight of the tree again and I lost all hope. But even the Grinch, yes, the Grinch, the stealer of Christmas, was kind enough to return what he stole after his heart doubled in size. And what do know, the tree was returned!

Whether it was brought back by the thief or just some random guy, I don't know, but I was more than thrilled to have that source of warmth and protection back in the lobby. Before retiring to bed that night, I stood in front of the tree just appreciating it once again. I told it goodnight, kissed it, and went to bed.

When I woke up the following morning at ten after six, I again got a glimpse of the bare lobby with no tree to fill the void. This time, I couldn't hold back, I wept and bawled until an R.A. came out and dried my tears.

Currently as I write this article, half of the tree remains in the lobby. The other half? God only knows where it could be. Well, God…and the Grinch who stole it.
