Freshmen Hannah Lane and Jessica Lillie will shave their heads to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation.

On Thursday, December 7, Freshmen Jessica Lillie and Hannah Lane shave their heads. This hair removing act is to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. Ticket and t-shirt sales will go directly to Leukemia research.

The Leukemia Foundation is dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with not only leukemia but also lymphomas, myeloma, and other related blood disorders.

Lillie and Lane are doing this with the help of their honors class. Everyone pitched in and grouped into committees to help. Some made posters, some are helping with ticket and, shirt sales, and others are organizing the refreshments while Lillie and Lane have to go hat shopping.

The head shaving activities will be held in the pub. Blue posters have been posted around campus relating the event details. Cookies, refreshments, and music will be provided.

Each ticket costs five dollars while t-shirts cost ten. A shirt counts as your ticket. The tickets and the t-shirts are being sold in the cafeteria during lunch and dinner starting on Monday, Dec 4. and will be sold at the door the night of the event.

Why would any girl want to shave their hair just for a fund raiser? Lillie said, "When I was a junior, a professor at my school died of Leukemia. He had a loving family and his death really affected the whole school, but the original idea to shave our hair off was Hannah's."

If you want to make a difference and would like to help raise money or donate to the Leukemia Foundation, please log on to http://www.leukaemia.org.au/web/index.php. On their Web Site there is a program similar to what Lakeland students are doing, the Leukemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave to Care and Cure. It is an annual program that goes from March 15 to March 17, 2007.

The World's Greatest Shave to Care and Cure is one of Australia's biggest fund-raising events. According to its Web site around 100,000 people all across the country pledge to shave or color their hair each year. This way if you do not wish to loose all of your hair you can still make a difference, but dying your hair counts too.

Why dye your hair? The money you raise like will go straight to the patients and their families.

If the fund raiser will fail, at least it will raise the moral of the kids with leukemia.
