Dear Cary and Sherry,
I will be going home for Christmas break. This is usually a time to hang with my friends. In the past we partied a lot and most of the time we were pretty drunk. I want to hang out but I kind of changed my attitude about drinking. How can I go out with them and not drink.
-----partied out
Dear Partied Out,
Congrats on making some good decisions. This is a sign of maturity. It is still ok to hang with your friends. You may be surprised that some of them are feeling the same way, but drink along with everyone else so they do not stand out. Providing you're of legal drinking age, decide before you go out what your limit is, and stick to it. Switch to soda and keep a straw in the glass--no one will know but you that it is not a mixed drink. Pressure from friends is tough, but stick to your plan. If you're not of drinking age, do not drink. You make decisions for your life and should not let others decide for you. After awhile they will stop pressuring you or, who knows, you may start a new trend. You will find you enjoy the evening more and the morning after won't be so bad.
Happy Holidays
