Lakeland Wrestlers dropped their first meet following their opening Lakeland duals on Nov. 21. This loss hacked at their record, which stood at 1-3 on the year. The fifteenth team in the nation in Division III, the UW-Stevens Point Pointers defeated the Muskies, 28-21 at Lakeland.
Twelve of the Muskies' 21 points came from two forfeits at the 125 and 141 pound weight classes. David Copp and Corey Theil earned those victories.
The remaining nine points were earned by a pin from Mark Vanden Hoogen and a decision by Jacob Frias.
The freshman at 149, Jacob Frias, defeated Stevens Point's Mo Malone 5-3, in a close match. The young wrestler improved to 2-2 on the year individually.
Senior captain, Mark Vanden Hoogen, improves his undefeated season to 4-0 with a pin over the Pointers' Bret Oswald in only 53 seconds, his quickest pin of the year. Of the senior's four wins on the year, three went for a fall.
"Mark and Jacob both were great tonight," said head coach Pete Rogers. "We are a very capable team but were just a very young team."
