Myspace overdose

Are blogs like myspace being used far too much?

The popularity of blog sites has increased to such great heights over the last few years. I see friends on these sites all the time. I never got around to creating accounts on them even though I did want to for a while years ago. But I can't believe how much time is spent on them.

Looking back at times when I was going to create an account, I am glad I never did. It's not that I think they are a bad thing or a waste of time or anything like that. I simply think that they are an addictive and incredibly habitual thing to turn to when bored.

After a year had gone by of my awareness of sites like myspace, I began seeing evidence of their increase in popularity. Everyone was on myspace. In my writing classes back in high school, we had laptops for each student. I noticed soon enough that I was just about the only one actually using Microsoft Word. Everyone else was on myspace.

Suddenly, people were in computer labs during school hours going on myspace while they were supposed to be doing schoolwork on the computers. I couldn't believe how little hesitation there was with this site. It was like the minute an opportunity presented itself, students were already on this site or some other blog site.

Why spend every second of your time on a blog? I realize that boredom can be a hard obstacle to overcome. When boredom strikes, we think of something to do so we are no longer bored. Unfortunately, we usually think of things that we have already done. But when you do the same thing so frequently, we tend to keep on turning to the same things.

Soon, we do that one thing as a second nature and we can often become bored even when doing that thing that we started doing in an attempt to not be bored anymore. I'm sure there are many things we can think of do to in place of myspace.

Sadly, myspace has become a place for teens to go to so they can write about themselves and their lives. They become so self-absorbed, asking other people for advice on what to do in their situations so that they don't have to make their own decisions.
