Kris Saiberlich is nearing elite status in the record books of Lakeland men's basketball.

Saiberlich, a three year starter for the team who already set a record his freshman year for free throw percentage in a season, needs 65 more points to become the 34th player in Muskie history to reach 1,000 points.

The junior guard from Fond du Lac, Wis. scored eight points on Tuesday night at Wisconsin Lutheran to bring his career total to 935.

"Winning is obviously the most important thing," Saiberlich said, "but reaching 1,000 points shows you that you're working hard. Not a lot of people get there."

With only two regular season games left, it seems unlikely that Saiberlich will reach the milestone yet this season, but Saiberlich would get at least one more additional chance should the Muskies reach the conference tournament.

If Saiberlich does not reach 1,000 this season, two Lakeland players could potentially reach the milestone in the same season, as sophomore Matt Rogers currently has 707 points in his career and is well on pace to reaching 1,000 next season barring an injury.

The last player to reach 1,000 points was 2004 graduate Cory Nickel, who reached the plateau in his senior year and finished with 1,498 points in his career.

John Koslowski holds the all-time Lakeland scoring record with 2,008 points.
