Hitterman grew up in Boone, Iowa and lived there until she graduated from Boone High School in 2003. She then went to Concordia University of Wisconsin where she pursued a degree in social work with minors in social science and lay ministry.
While at Concordia, Hitterman did a social work internship at Froedtert Hospital in the surgical intensive care unit. She graduated from Concordia in May 2007.
"My favorite job in college was being a Resident Assistant," said Hitterman. "I like meeting new people and I love the atmosphere here at Lakeland. It makes me feel at home."
Other than being a hall director, Hitterman will also be serving as community service coordinator.
"I hope to make positive changes in peoples' lives while I am a hall director," said Hitterman. "I also hope that I can grow along with other people in the knowledge of higher education."
In her free time Hitterman likes to scrapbook, play tennis and do interior decorating. "It doesn't happen too often because I am so busy," she said. She also spends time with her husband, Ken, whom she married this past June.
Vallier, a Lakeland alum, grew up in Gladstone, Michigan and graduated from Gladstone High School in 2002. He majored in psychology and graduated from Lakeland in May 2007.
"I want to finish up my writing minor and probably go back for my Master's degree in counseling," said Vallier. He might start taking classes again next semester.
When it comes to being a residence hall director, Vallier says he likes the aspects of resident life. "I also like working with people and students and seeing them blossom into better individuals," said Vallier.
Vallier will be working as an Assistant Wrestling coach and also Assistant Director of Intramurals. This past summer he worked as the Assistant Campus Crew Leader.
Vallier is engaged to marry Amber Walechka sometime next summer. "There's no date set yet, but hopefully within the next year we will get married," said Vallier.
Vallier's favorite movie is "The Big Lebowski," a cool comedy about an unemployed man who is mistaken for a millionaire. That movie probably explains a lot about Vallier's character. "All around, I'm just a pretty cool guy, if I do say so myself," said Vallier.
Both hall directors look forward to working with students and other staff this year to make Lakeland a tighter community.
