This year, changes were made concerning move-in day to allow the freshman class an easier transition to Lakeland College. These changes were beneficial towards other students

In years past, the New Student Welcome Ceremony was done in front of the entire student body. This was modified because of inappropriate behavior from upperclassmen in the audience. Some students enjoyed the ceremony.

Freshman Rachel Brooks said, "I thought the ceremony was kind of cool because it gave the freshmen a chance to see the other freshmen."

There were some students who felt that the ceremony was not as worthwhile. Freshman Alyssa Hoehne said, "I didn't like the ceremony. I thought they were just telling us things they'd already told us."

Another alteration this year was to hold the ceremony on move-in day so that family would be able to attend. Talia Proffitt, director of student life, felt that "Move-in day was excellent…there were [few] problems with residents checking in."

Joy Harvell, president of LC-CAB said, "Move-in day was relaxing because people came at different times. It didn't feel too hectic."

Freshmen Jamie Schmidt and Whitney Diedrich felt that it was an easy transition into the school year.

Freshman Pratikshya Bhandari said that she liked how the Welcome Week activities went. "[They were] planned in such a way that we would see more people," said Hoehne.

Sara Wegner, coordinator of special events, said, "Everyone seemed to have a good time at all the events. It was really nice to see the freshmen get involved."

The freshmen ceremony was a chance for incoming students to meet other members of their class. The ceremony was also held so that family members could attend, which made it more significant for the students

These were good social opportunities for the freshmen class. The changes were made mainly for the freshmen, so that their transition would be smoother and a bit less stressful. Not only did the alterations benefit the freshmen, but they helped the entire student body, which made the week more enjoyable for everyone.
