Sandy was born March 5, 1948. She started working here at Lakeland as a security guard, but after six years she was named manager of the Muskie Mart. Ever since then, the upper west side of Bossard Hall has been her territory. She helped create and cultivate the convenient store we have today.
She was more than just the smiling face of the manager, "She was that store," Co-worker Roger Carlson, said.
Sandy knew what many students were going to order, before they opened their mouths. She developed a relationship with everyone who came into the store.
Her friends here at Lakeland all agreed that she was a very outgoing person who genuinely cared about other people. She was always there to listen to students and co-workers alike. She was able to relate to just about everyone.
Sandy let her sense of humor shine through. Carlson, who worked with Sandy for about 17 years, said, "Grumpy, we greeted each other every day by saying 'hey grumpy.'"
Having her familiar face at the Muskie Mart was always a pleasant encounter. She had a wonderful personality that no one could replace; she will always be remembered with fond memories.
All of members of the food service staff were given Monday morning off to attend the services in Sandy's honor.
