By Ben Koepsell

The Lakeland College Women’s Softball team split the two games against Edgewood College at home on Apr. 7.

Junior pitcher Erin Henk pitched in game one and threw a complete game, striking out seven, allowing ten hits, but only four runs, three of them earned. The Muskies got the win in game one, 6-4. With the win, Henk is now 6-3 on the season.

“We had too many errors in the second game,” Henk said. “Also, we stopped hitting the ball in the last part of the second game.”

Henk also led the Muskies with the bat in game one, going 2-3 with two RBI’s. Junior Jenny LaLuzerne and senior Leah Sheahan also contributed two RBI’s each for the Muskies.

In game two, freshman Elizabeth Zimmerman got the start, but it was a rocky one for the Muskies. Zimmerman allowed four runs in 1/3 of an inning. Freshman Amanda Graves came in for Zimmerman and pitched four innings in relief, allowing five runs on six hits.

The Muskies battled back and took the lead 6-5 in the bottom of the second, but that was it for the Muskies. Edgewood regained the lead in the top of the fourth and didn’t look back. The Muskies would lose game two, 11-7.

Offensively for the Muskies, freshman Kaitlyn Hoffmann went 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Sheahan drove in two more runs in game two for the Muskies and junior Heather Haeflinger went 3-4 with two runs scored.

“We took them too lightly and had too many errors in the second game,” Haeflinger said. “Our momentum was lost and we never got it back.”

With the split, the Muskies are now 10-8 overall and 5-1 in NAC play.

The Muskies will resume play on Apr. 11 at Marian University. Game one will begin at 4:00 p.m.
